Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the titled printing plate excellent in picture-reproducibility without public pollution, by forming a picture part on a picture-forming metal layer vacuum-deposited on a gravure substrate plate, and then coating the metal layer with a hard metal film by a spattering method. CONSTITUTION:A gravure substrate plate 10 is located inside a vacuum-depositing vessel, and a metal is evaporated from an evaporation source and let adhere to the surface of the substrate plate 10 to form a picture-forming metal layer 11 having thickness of 100-200mum. Therafter, the surface of the metal layer 11 is polished into flatness of 0.01-0.1mum or so by buffing. After the polished metal layer 11 is mechanically engraved to form a picture part 12, the substrate plate is located inside a cathode-spattering device. The device is evacuated into 10<-5>Torr or so, and reverse-spattering is done with electric power of 0.1- 1.0KW/dm<2> under an Ar gas atmosphere by use of a high-frequency power source to roughen the surface of the metal layer 11 into a level of 0.01-0.1mum or so. Thereafter, current-applying polarity is reversed, and a metal having hardness of 1,000HK or more is let adhere to the roughened surface by spattering to form a hard metal film 13.
