Abstract
PURPOSE: An inorganic hard substance is deposited in thin films, as an organic polymer layer is being formed on a plastic base body, to form hard coating films endued with high adhesion to the base body, high durability, dyeability, hydrophilic property, water repellency and so on.
CONSTITUTION: A plastic base body 21 made of, e.g., polycarbonate is placed in a vacuum tank and an organic monomer, preferably a monomer forming the plastic base body or the like or organic polymer is introduced into it. The monomer or polymer is ionized by plasma to form organic polymer layers 22 on the base. Then, while the organic polymer layers are being formed, an inorganic hard substance such as silicon oxide is deposited in a thin film to form an organic-inorganic complex layer 23. The thickness of the organic polymer layers is made 10ÅW1μ and that of the organic-inorganic complex layers is 10ÅW5μ. Further, the proportion of the inorganic substance preferably becomes gradually high toward the surface in the complex layers.
