Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the heating and denitrating efficiency when uranium oxide or plutonium oxide is manufactured by heating, evaporating and denitrating a soln. of uranyl nitrate or plutonium nitrate under irradiated microwaves, by forming a container holding the starting material soln. with silicon nitride or mica ceramics. CONSTITUTION:A lifting stand 2 fixable in the bottom opening 1A of a microwave oven 1 is lowered to a place under the oven 1 with a driving section 2, a container 3 holding a soln. 4 of uranyl nitrate or plutonium nitrate is mounted, and the stand 2 is raised to put the container 3 in the oven 1 and to clog the openig 1A. Microwaves generated from a microwave generator 5 are then irradiated to the inside of the oven 1 through a waveguide 1 to heat the soln. 4 in the container 3, whereby the water is evaporated, and the uranyl nitrate or plutonium nitrate is denitrated to manufacture uranium oxide or plutonium oxide. At this time, by forming the container 3 with Si3N4 or mica ceramics transmitting microwaves, the efficiency of the microwave denitration reaction is increased.
