Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to use a developer for contact development also, by reducing the gap between a photosensitive drum and a developing roller in the exit side of a developing device and developing an image while controlling the quantity of the developer and allowing the developing device to perform the deveopment as if the contact development was performed. CONSTITUTION:A developing saucer 5 is cut partially, and a photosensitive drum 1 and a developing roller 20 having the same width as the drum 1 are arranged in a tank 4 immediately after this cutting, and the gap between the surface of the drum 1 and that of the developing roller 20 is varied to, for example, 50- 500mm., and the developing roller 20 is stopped; and the developing roller 20 is moved in the same direction as and the direction opposite to the movement direction of the circumference of the drum 1 while varying properly the peripheral speed from the stop state, and the potential of the earth or a positive bias is applied because the roller 20 is conductive, and the electric charge having the same polarity as a toner is given by a developing corona charger 22, thus obtaining a visible image for the practical use.
