Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve combustion efficiency in a gasoline engine, by performing ignition of a high voltage spark discharge through a high frequency discharge of a microwave antenna provided in the internal wall of a cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A coaxial wire 18 of a coaxial circuit 17 is connected to a center conductor 12 of a coaxial type resonator 11, and output from an oscillator 16 is fed almost to the resonator 11, then high frequency electromagnetic field intensity increases to value Q multiples of the resonator. As a result, the intense electric field is distributed in a part of microwave antenna 14, and a high frequency electric arc 15 is generated even without proximity of confronted electrodes to be discharged. The relation between electric power P and electric field intensity E is P=E<2>, if discharge start voltage is obtained at mixture gas pressure about 10atm., intensity of voltage causing a non-polarized discharge is about 280KV/cm, and about 2,400W is input. In this way, an electric discharge range is increased in a combustion chamber, and combustion velocity can be increased, further a noise is not generated.
