Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent noise of a spark discharge from an engine, by feeding microwave power to a combustion chamber of the engine through a coaxial circuit, and both causing an electric discharge phenomenon of plasma and emitting laser light through a fiber, then overlapping energy of the both laser and plasma. CONSTITUTION:Mixture gas in a combustion chamber 3 is compressed by a piston 2 to reach a resonating state with oscillating frequency of a microwave oscillator 12 immediately before the top dead center of the piston. Simultaneously with the resonance, microwave power enters the combustion chamber 3 by a power feed loop 10 to cause an electric discharge phenomenon of microwave plasma in the chamber. Through combustion of the mixture gas is performed by only the plasma discharge, laser light 17 is additionally emitted to the combustion chamber 3 through a glass fiber 14 from a laser light source 15 and combined to efficiently perform the combustion. The timing of ignition is calculated by a controller 100 on the basis of detected values from a generator G and speed sensor 18, detecting speed of an engine, and from a negative pressure sensor 20, detecting intake pipe negative pressure, thus voltage of an oscillator power source 13 and its operation timing are controlled.
