Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the using efficiency of a recording medium, by detecting the level difference among the outputs of plural positioning heads and then detecting the shift of a magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head 1 contains a data reading head 2 plus positioning heads 3 and 4 set at both sides of the head 2. The detection signals of the heads 3 and 4 are amplified 21 and 22 and supplied to a detector 23 to detect the level difference between the detection signals. Then the output signals corresponding to the level difference are supplied to head driving mechanisms 24 and 25. Thus the shift of the head 2 can be compensated.
