Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the recording of the special position information for positioning of the magnetic head of a magnetic disk, by using the data at the end part of the data track for the positioning signal. CONSTITUTION:The position signal detecting heads 8a and 8b are provided near the data head 5 to detect both the direction and extent of the shift. The position signal detecting heads 8a and 8b having the core width TW' smaller than the track width TW are provided at the very edge of the width TW. Thus the outputs of these detecting heads become as shown in the waveform diagrams (a) and (b) each, and these waveforms are added together through the adverse level detector 9. Thus the error voltage of zero, plus and minus each can be detected in accordance with the shift of position between the data track and the data head. With a simultaneous use of the heads 8a and 8b in a number of units, the quality of the position signal can be enhanced.
