Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the granulating property of zeolite without deteriorating the basic properties of the zeolite, by applying a small amount of iron hydroxide to the zeolite.
CONSTITUTION: Zeolite is placed in a container, and water is added thereto. Agitating blades 4 are rotated by a motor 3 to suspend the zeolite in the water and give a slurry 1. An aqueous solution 2 of FeCl3 in an amount of 0.2W 3.0wt% expressed in terms of Fe, based on the zeolite is added to the resultant slurry to apply fine precipitates of Fe(OH)3 to the surface of the zeolite particles. A binder, e.g. clay, is added to the zeolite containing the Fe(OH)3 applied thereto, and the resultant mixture is then granulated. Thus, the granulating property of the zeolite is improved to increase the production amount of the zeolite per unit time, and the resultant granular zeolite has a smooth surface without cracks, and the properties, e.g. hygroscopicity and molecular sieving property, unique to the zeolite are not changed.
