Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to incessantly regenerate and exhaust gas filter by a method wherein a rotary type regenerating heating plate device, which covers the area no more than one third of the filter area, are provided upstream of the exhaust gas filter. CONSTITUTION:The exhaust gas from an engine is purified by passing through a multitudinously divided metallic filter 2 and exhausted from a tube 4. As for the filter 2, heaters 8 and as well as a partition plate 13 covering no more than one third of the filter cross-sectional area are arranged at the front part of the filter 2. The partition plate 13 is pivoted at every fixed running distance of the engine by means of ratchet mechanism. The heater 8 arranged within the area covered by the partition plate 13 is energized and heated through a contact 20 so as to burn particles caught in the metallic filter 2 in cooperation with the exhaust gas stream passing through holes 13a bored over the partition plate 13 in order to regenerate the filter 2. Because said partition plate 13 is pivoted, the filter area to be regenerated is shifted and the regeneration of the filter can be performed incessantly during the engine is running.
