1422413 Regenerating active carbon CHIYODA KAKO KENSETSU KK 18 Jan 1973 [28 June 1972] 38378/73 Divided out of 1422412 Heading C1A Activated carbon is regenerated in an apparatus comprising a desorbing chamber 32 in which the used material is heated to 100‹ to 700‹ C., an activating chamber 33 designed to receive material from the desorbing chamber, with heating means, e.g. combustion gases from chamber 46, adapted to heat the activating chamber to at least 500‹ C. without bringing oxygen into contact with the activated carbon. By means of fuel inlet 44 and air inlet 45 a flow of hot combustion gas emerges from chamber 46 and passes through pipes 35, 36, serving both to heat the carbon in the activating chamber and fluidize the carbon in the desorbing chamber. As shown in the Figure the desorbing chamber is preferably situated above the activating chamber so that the carbon is transferred by gravity, e.g. down pipes 34. The activating chamber may have a steam inlet 49 through which sufficient steam is admitted to fluidize the contents of the activating chamber. During the regeneration process the carbon stays in the desorption chamber for 5-180 minutes and the activation chamber for 5-180 minutes.
