CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula III[R1 is H, salt-forming cation, etc.; R2 is protecting group; R7 is group of formula -COR6 or -CR5R9R10 (R5 is alkyl, etc.; R6 is H, etc.; R9 and R10 are H, alkyl, etc.; R9 and R10 may together with adjacent C atom form a salt)]can be prepared by reactig a (4S)-4- (substituted or unsubstituted carboxymethyl)-2-azetidinone derivative of formulaI with a reaction reagent selected from the compounds of formula II, formula R5X (X is reactive group) and formula R6COY (Y is reactive group), in the presence of a base, and if necessary, eliminating or introducing or chlorinating the carboxyl protecting group of R1.
