Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable multiple-point-ignition, by providing spark electrode units on an insulator plate inserted in between a cylinder block and a cylinder head and by grounding the cathodes of some electrode units to the cylinder through terminals secured in a gasket. CONSTITUTION:An insulator plate 4 is inserted in between a cylinder block 1 and a cylinder head 3. A plurality of spark electrodes units 13-20 are provided on the inner circumferential surface of the insulator plate 4 so that the spark electrode units are located at intervals in the circumferential direction of a combustion chamber 7. The anodes A of the electrode units 13, 17 are connected to terminals 21, 22. The cathodes B of the electrode units 16, 20 are grounded to the cylinder block 1 through discs 33, 34. Gaskets 5, 6 are interposed between the insulator plate 4 and the cylinder block 1 or the cylinder head 3. A terminal 32 is secured in the gasket 5. The cathode B of the electrode unit 20 is grounded to the cylinder block 1 through the disc 33 and the terminal 32.
