Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the number of used general purpose ROMs, by converting many codes partially to an intermediate word and converting them to an intermediate code on a basis of this intermediate word and rest codes and converting original codes to data on a basis of this intermediate code. CONSTITUTION:In case that a general purpose 16K (2kX8 bits) ROM is used in the EFM (14-8 conversion) modulation system for a digital signal, 14bit input data is divided into 11bit data and 3bit data because the address input of the general purpose ROM is only 11bits, and 11bit data is inputted to the address input of an ROM2, and the output is converted to a corresponding 8bit intermediate code. This 8bit code and rest 3bit data are combined to input 11 bits to the address input of the ROM3, and finally, 8bit data is taken out. Thus, the 14bit code is converted to 8bit data with a small number of used ROMs.
