Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A maytansinoid of formulaI(R1 is lower alkyl; R2 is lower alkyl, aryl).
EXAMPLE: PND-3-N-acetate.
USE: Antitumor agent, antiprotozoal agent: it is low-toxicity and can be administered orally or parenterally.
PREPARATION: The reaction of a compound of formula II with a carboxylic acid of formula III or its reactive derivative gives a compound of formulaI. The reaction is preferably effected in the presence of a basic or acidic catalyst such as a tertiary amine or Lewis acid. When necessary, the reaction is conducted in the presence of a condensation reagent and a solvent at -40W100°C. The compound of formula II is obtained from the culture mixture of a microorganism such as Nocardia.
