Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a drug for tachycardia, extrasystole, essential hypertension, etc., in high yield, simply by reacting 4-(3- amino-2-hydroxy-propoxy)indole with isopropyl sulfonate.
CONSTITUTION: 4-(3-Isopropylamino-2-hydroxy-propoxy)indole is prepared by reacting easily available 4-(3-amino-2-hydroxy-propoxy)indole with an isopropyl sulfonate of formula (R is 1W20C alkyl or aryl)(especially preferably isopropyl p-toluene-sulfonate or isopropyl ethanesulfonate) preferably in a solvent such as methanol, ethanol, etc., adding an alkali such as potassium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, etc. to the reaction system.
