Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an indole derivative useful as an intermediate for synthesizing tryptophane in high yield, by reacting indole with an oxazolone derivative in the presence of a Lewis acid.
CONSTITUTION: Indole is reacted with an oxazolone derivative shown by the formula I (R is aryl; X is alkoxy or dialkylamino) in the presence of a Lewis acid (e.g., stannic chloride, etc.) in a solvent, e.g., dichloroethane, etc. at -10°C to room temperature for 1W24hr, to give a compound shown by the formula II.
