Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the corrosion spalling resistance of a galvanized steel plate by forming an Fe-Zn alloy layer having a specified thickness or above as the alloy layer in the galvanized layer which is in contact with the steel as the base metal of the steel plate.
CONSTITUTION: By heating the galvanized layer of a galvanized steel plate coated with zinc or a zinc alloy or reducing the Al content of a galvanizing bath, mutual diffusion between the layer and the steel as the base metal is facilitated to form an Fe-Zn alloy layer having ≥0.2μm average thickness in the galvanized layer. Thus, even if intergranular corrosion proceeds from the zinc layer side, the propagation can be stopped by the Fe-Zn alloy layer, and corrosion spalling is prevented.
