Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a base material for printing plates which has a specific chromium coating on the surface of iron and is superior in rust preventiveness and adhesive strength to a photosensitive layer by subjecting an iron material as cathode to an electrolytic treatment at 25 deg.C in liquid contg. chromic acid anhydride (CrO3), Ba ions and NO3 ions. CONSTITUTION:The surface of an iron material is defatted and is removed of stains by subjecting the same to an anodic treatment by using electrolyte or the like contg. 80-200g/l CrO3 and <=0.01g/l nitric acid, after which with the iron material 9 as - electrode and a lead plate 10 as + electrode, it is treated under specific electrolytic conditions at <=25 deg.C in electrolyte 8 contg. 200-500g/l CrO3, 0.01-1g/l H3BO3, 0.1-0.5mol/l NHO3, 0.01-1g/l fluoride such as HF, <=0.1mol NH4 ion, 0.01-0.1g/l iron oxide (FeO), 1-10g/l Ba(NO3)2, whereby a base material for printing plates having the coating layer consisting of caracks 1, holes 2, chromium oxide 3, metallic Cr 4 on the surface of the iron material 9 is made. A photosensitive layer is formed on the coating layer thereof, and is exposed and developed, whereby the printing plate of excellent adhesive strength between the photosensitive layer and the base material and good print resistance is obtained.
