Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve an accuracy of sensing of the lack of oxygen and further to improve a stablility in operation of the combustion unit by a method wherein a combustion cylinder is arranged over a plurality of flame ports made in the burner, the sensor pipe is red heated within the combustion cylinder, a strength of red heat light is taken out as an electric signal and a condition of lack of oxygen is judged by the output signal. CONSTITUTION:Combustion cylinder 14 is arranged over at least two or more flame ports 8 of a plurality of flame ports 8 of the burner 7 and the sensor 13 is arranged in such a manner as the sensor 21 of the oxygen concentration sensor 13 is red heated by the inner flame 41 of the flame Q. With this arrangement, when the sensor 21 is red heated, the red heat light radiated by the inner surface of the sensor 21 is applied to operate the photoconductive element or a light receiving element (not shown) stored in the sensor 13 and then the terminal potential is produced. The terminal potential corresponds to a strenght of red heat light, i.e. an oxygen concentration, so that if it is approached to a dangerous range of lack of oxygen, a signal for terminating a feeding of fuel is produced by the control unit (not shown). With this arrangement, it is possible to provide a positive and stable sensing of a lack of oxygen without being affected by the soot and the like.
