Abstract

PURPOSE:To avoid deterioration in video quality due to smear phenomenon, by detecting a pseudo signal due to smear phenomenon and subtracting the signal from the output signal of a solid-state image pickup device. CONSTITUTION:An output signal of a CCD 21 is given to an AD converter 22, where it is converted into a digital signal. The signal of a drive signal generator 31 opeates the converter 22 during only the period when the signal only by the smear phenomenon can be obtained. The output is subtracted with a signal from a line memory 26 at a subtractor 23 and applied to a multiplier 24. The coefficient of the multiplier 24 is obtained from a coefficient generator 32. The output of the multiplier 24 is added with a signal from the line memory 26 at an adder 25 and stored again in the memory 26. The smear component stored in the line memory 26 is converted into an analog signal at a DA converter 27. When the output signal of the DA converter is subtracted from the output signal of the CCD 21 at a subtractor 28, a signal eliminating the smear component from the output signal of the CCD 21 is obtained.
