Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the wave making resistance of a captioned catamaran caused by interference by providing the central part of a strut or a lower hull with a bulge and selecting distances from front and rear ends of the strut or the lower hull to front and rear ends of the bulge to be odd times as long as the half length of a wave made at a proper ship speed. CONSTITUTION:In a half-underwater catamaran, its strut or/and its lower hull are provided with a bulge 12 in the longitudinal center. A longitudinal distance between the front end of the bulge 12 and the front end of the hull on which the bulge 12 is provided, or a longitudinal distance between the rear end of the bulge 12 and the rear end of the hull on which the bulge 12 is provided, is selected to be odd times as long as the half length of a wave made at a proper speed of the hull. The wave making resistance as a whole can be reduced by the interference of the wave made by this bulge 12 as overcoming the increase of the resistance caused by the bulge 12.
