Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the outflow of molten slag of the case in which a nozzle which is impossible to observe or is of high electric conductivity is used by measuring the radiation energy of the microwave band oscillated from the molten steel passing through the nozzle on the outer side of the nozzle. CONSTITUTION:In the stage of casting molten metal from a ladle 1 to a tundish 2, the wavelength oscillated from the molten metal flowing through an immersion nozzle 5 is measured with a detector 10, and the result of the measurement is displayed in an indicating meter 15. The change in the wavelength oscillated when the slag floating on the molten metal surface passes through the nozzle 5 in the end period of the casting is detected and an oil hydraulic cylinder 4a is operated to close a sliding nozzle 4. In this way, the inclusion of the slag in the ladle 1 into the tundish 2 is prevented.
