Abstract

PURPOSE:To make liquid-tight the contact surfaces of a crankcase which is made of synthetic resin and split into a right and a left portions as to the axis of the cylinder or into an upper and lower portions as to the axis of the crankshaft, by integrally providing protrusions on the contact surfaces along the peripheral wall of the crankcase. CONSTITUTION:A crankcase 11, 12, which is split into a right and a left portions as to the axis of the cylinder 3 of an engine 1, is molded from synthetic resin such as fiberglass-reinforced polybutylene terephthalate. Protrusions 30 are provided on all the contact surfaces of portions, in which the inside and outside of the crankcase need to be shut off from each other, and on all the contact surfaces of portions which disconnect a crank chamber 21 and a transmission chamber 28 from each other, so that the protrusions 30 extend along the peripheral wall or partition walls of the crankcase. According to this constitution, the interior of the crankcase 11, 12 can be kept liquid-tight without interposing a liquid sealing material or gasket.
