Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize the transmission of a picture with high quality, by deciding the stepped concentration distribution from the digitized picture signal, dividing the stored original picture signals into segment lines on a scanning line and with use of the said concentration distribution and allotting the concentration distribution with every segment line for coding. CONSTITUTION:An optical conversion input part 11 is provided along with an A/D converting part 13 which digitizes the output of the part 11, a CPU16, a main storage part 15 connected to the CPU16, a modulating/demodulating part 20, etc. The input signal received an A/D conversion 13 is stored in the part 15 under the control of the CPU16. The CPU16 obtains the stepped concentration distribution from the stored data, divides the picture signals stored in the part 15 into the segment lines based on the stepped concentration section and on each scanning line and allots the corresponding stepped concentration section for each segment line. At the same time, the allotted concentration section and the number of picture elements contained the segment line are coded in the form of a pair. In such way, the high quality of pictures can be assured with no short break of the circuit, the level fluctuation, the phase jitter, the S/N ratio nor soils, dusts, flaws of a recording medium.
