Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent excessive scattering of high frequency component in an output picture, by compensating a difference between a density level of an objective picture element for comparison processing and a density level of corresponding output picture element, through scattering and adding the difference to the respective density level of a plurality of picture elements before comparison processing adjacent to a noted picture element. CONSTITUTION:An analog density signal of an intermediate picture is inputted to an A/D converter 100 and stored in a buffer memory 104 after quantization. The density data of noted picture element from a memory 104 is inputted to a comparison circuit 106 and a random number is also inputted. If the former value is greater than the latter, a signal of black level is outputted and if not, white signal is outputted. A differential device 110 obtains an error between the density level of a noted picture element and that of the output picture element and it is given to a multiplier 112. The multiplier 112 obtains a distributed error to the adjacent video elements of the noted picture element, and an adder 114 adds the distributed error with the density data of the corresponding picture element in the memory 104 to renew the data in the memory from the result.
