Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an adhesive tape having a long pot life and improved coating performance, by mixing an acrylic polymeric solution with a high base content, e.g. a solution polymer of an acrylic monomer, with a crosslinking component, an emulsifying component and water, and coating a substrate with the resultant aqueous dispersed polymer.
CONSTITUTION: An acrylic polymeric solution with a high base content (and preferably a solid concentration ≥50wt%) selected from a solution polymer and a solution of a coagulated bulk polymer and an emulsion polymer of an acrylic monomer capable of forming a pressure-sensitive adhesive polymer, e.g. ethyl acrylate as a principal monomer, acrylic acid as a functional monomer and styrene as a modifying monomer, is mixed with a crosslinking component, preferably a polyisocyanate compound, an emulsifying component, e.g. a nonionic surfactant, and water in an amount of preferably 0.1W20pts.wt. to give an aqueous dispersed polymer. The resultant aqueous dispersed polymer is then applied to a substrate, e.g. a plastic or paper, to afford the aimed tape.
