Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an adsorbent having high adsorption capacity for phosphate by impregnating and attaching a titanyl sulfate soln. to a porous carrier as an adsorbent contg. a metatitanic acid then hydrolyzing the same.
CONSTITUTION: First, a titanyl sulfate soln. is impregnated and attached to and in a porous carrier of active carbon, a weak basic resin or the like; thereafter, it is hydrolyzed by an alkali such as sodium hydroxide to allow fine metatitanic acid to deposit in the porous carrier. This is used as an adsorbent. This adsorbent is extremely high in the adsorbing power of phosphoric acid ions and has excellent adsorbing capacity for org. matter; therefore, it is used for treatment of waste water, tertiary treated water, etc.
