Abstract

PURPOSE: To lessen the amount of residual combustion gas for raising the efficiency of a combustion by using a system in which intake and exhaust ports are provided eccentrically to the axis of a cylinder in such a way that the flow of intake air can produce a swirl flow along the inner wall of the cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: A set of intake and exhaust ports 5 for a pile hammer are provided in such a way that respective central axies are separated from each other as much as a distance e(e≠0) in line with the center line a-a of a cylinder 2 and also intake air from outside is directed toward a direction along which a swirl flow is produced along the inner wall of the cylinder 2, centering on the axis 0 of the cylinder. Thus, since the flow from the intake and exhaust ports 5 to the upside of an anvil 1 turns along the inner wall of the cylinder 2, the efficiency of combustion can be raised without causing dead zone inside the combustion chamber 4.
