Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture the titled material having superior mechanical properties and causing no surface roughening in forming by homogenizing a specified Al alloy followed by hot rolling, cold rolling to a prescribed thickness, softening by rapid cooling cold working and solid soln. treatment
CONSTITUTION: An Al alloy is cast consisting of 5.1W8.1% Zn, 1.8W3.4% Mg, 1.2W2.6% Cu, ≤0.2% Ti, 0.8W0.35% Cr and/or 0.05W0.25% Zr and the balance Al and impurities. This Al alloy ingot is homogenized by heating at a high temp., hot rolled, and optionally softened. The hot rolled material is then cold rolled to a prescribed thickness, softened by rapid heating to 320W500°C at ≥11°C/min average heating rate, cooled, cold worked at 0W90%, and subjected to solid soln. treatment to manufacture the material for an airplane stringer with ≤100μ crystal grain size.
