Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce a sound ingot of superior surface characteristics without the occurrence of casting accidents, in a continuous casting method in which the drawing direction is horizontal, by applying high-frequency oscillations of specific frequencies through the opening part of the mold to the ingot shell surface in a drawing stop period or compression period. CONSTITUTION:In a continuous casting method in which drawing direction is horizontal, high-frequency oscillations of 5-50kHz frequencies are applied from a device 10 via a oscillator 8 and a transmission shaft 9 to the surface of the solidified shell 7 of the ingot in a mold 6 through the opening part having beforehand been provided to the mold, in a drawing stop period or compression period, whereby the frictional force between the surface of the frozen shell 7 of the ingot and the inside wall surface of the mold 6 is decreased, the occurrence of local breakdown in the shell 7 is obviated and the stable horizontal casting is made possible.
