Abstract
PURPOSE: To make it possible to perform excelent weldings on thin sheets which have large gaps in their welding parts, by alternatively repeating the first stage welding which is to be performed under specified welding conditions and the second stage welding to be performed with a normal arc in the consumable electrode type gas sealed arc welding.
CONSTITUTION: In the consumable electrode type gas sealed arc welding method of thin sheets 3 and 4, the first stage welding is carried out by connecting a resistance to the power source and with a low current compared to normal arc weldings. The first stage welding is performed in such a way that, when the welding wire and base metals 3 and 4 make a short-circuit, the welding wire is melted after it becomes red and short time's arcs are generated. This procedure is repeated again and the gap is filled at a low heat input, and then the second stage welding is performed by changing the arc into a stable normal one. This method is especially suitable when welding gap of thin sheet of ≤1mm in thickness is large, and there is no melt down which occurs often in conventional methods, and excellent welding metals can be produced.
