Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate pulse arc welding and make the size of an apparatus small by setting a pulse waveform to optimum waveform and changing pulse frequency to control heat input to the object to be welded.
CONSTITUTION: In performing T1G pulse arc welding, values of pulse current IP1 and pulse time TP1 that sufficiently concentrates and stabilizes the arc are selected for the diameter of a tungsten electrode to be used. The value of base current IB1 is selected not to cause arc break. Thus, one optimum waveform that suit the diameter of electrode, material quality of the object to be welded etc. is determined beforehand, and heat input is controlled by changing the average current changing pulse frequency without changing the optimum waveform. In the case of M1G or MAG pulse arc welding too, values of peak current IP2 and pulse width τ are selected to make transfer of spray stably according to the diameter and material quality of wire and kind of shield gas to be used. Pulse waveform is determined making the base current IB2 not to cause arc break. Heat input is controlled in the same manner as described above.
