Abstract
PURPOSE:To continuously measure the flow speed of the tidal current in the wide sea area by a method wherein an ultrasonic signal is emitted from a wave sending and receiving device fitted in a ship into the sea and a water speed and a ground speed are obtained to perform a vector operation for the flow speed of tidal current. CONSTITUTION:A transmitting frequency is generated through an oscillator 1 and the generated wave is modulated through a pulse number modulating circuit 2. The modulated pulse wave is passed through a transmitting and receiving change-over circuit 3a-3d, and then, is entered into wave sending and receiving devices 4a-4d then, is sent into water as an ultrasonic pulse wave. And the water signal is received as a reflection of plankton micro particles in the sea and the ground signal is received as a reflection signal from the sea bottom in the wave sending and receiving devices 4a-4d, once more. This receiving signal is applied to Doppler displacement detectors 6a-6d via transmitting and receiving change-over circuits 3a-3d and amplifiers 5a-5d and a Doppler shift quantity is detected. Next thereto, a ground speed and a water speed of a ship are obtained from a Doppler shift quantity of these components and therefrom, a speed of a tidal current is obtained. With this constitution, a current speed in the vast sea area can be continuously measured.
