Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the heat-insulating effect and to reduce the depth of the indoor unit of the separate type air conditioner, by forming a heat-insulating vacuum layer in the back cabinet of the indoor unit.
CONSTITUTION: The indoor unit shown in the drawing consists of a cooler 1, indoor fan 2, fan motor 3, front cabinet 4 and a rear cabinet 5. At the time of cooling operation of the air conditioner, air drawn into the indoor unit from the front cabinet 4 is cooled by the cooler 1 and then discharged to the outside from an outlet opening in the direction shown by an arrow in the drawing by the function of fan 2. Here, the heat-insulating vacuum layer 7 in place of conventional heat-insulating materials is formed at the back of rear cabinet 5. With such an arrangement, it is enabled to keep the temperature at the back of rear cabinet 5 equal to the room temperature, so that no dewdrop is formed on the back surface. Further, since the vacuum layer 7 has a heat-insulating function more effective than that obtained when conventional heat-insulating materials are used, the depth of the indoor unit can be reduced to that extent.
