Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A D-(α-phenoxy)-propionic acid derivative of formula I (R1 is group of formula II or formula III; R2 is H or halogen; X is H or halogen).
EXAMPLE: D(+)-2-[4-(6-Chloro-2-quinoxalyloxy)phenoxy]propionic acid methyl ester.
USE: Herbicide especially effective to true-grass weeds either by soil treatment or by foliar treatment. It has little phytotoxicity to the crops such as cotton, soybeans, radish, cabbage, eggplant, etc.
PROCESS: The objective compound is prepared by reacting (A) 2-(4'-hydroxy)phenoxyquinoline, its derivative, 2-(4'-hydroxy)phenoxyquinoxaline, or its derivative with (B) L-(-)-lactic acid alkyl ester tosylate in the presence of anhydrous K2CO3.
