Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the mixed charge possible for the hot and the cold slabs, and to economically operate the heating furnace, by accumulating the classified slabs to be hot charged later at each section of the warming furnace, by making uniform the temperature of the slab of each section separately, and then, by charging the slab to the heating furnace on the rolling chance. CONSTITUTION:The slabs 3, 4, being split in the continuous casting plant 1 or the blooming plant 2, are temporarily accumulated in the warming furnace 6 in order to wait for the rolling chance. This warming furnace 6 is, for example, constituted of the box type furnace frame 7 and is divided into plural small chambers 11, and its inner wall surface is lined with the heat insulating material 8. The hot slab 3 and the cold slab 4 are charged in this warming furnace 6 together, and their temteratures are naturally made uniform during the period of waiting for the rolling chance. This slab is taken out of the corresponding warming section successively according to the rolling chance and is charged into the heating furnace 5. According to this method, the heating furnace 5 can be operated at high reference temperatures so that the unit consumption of the raw material is improved.
