Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the internal resistance, and enhance the discharge characteristics and the preservation characteristics of an alkaline battery by using a separator made of a given graft-polymer. CONSTITUTION:A positive mixture 3 made of silver oxide or the like is packed into a positive case 2, which is placed in a metal exterior case 1. A separator 4, an electrolyte-holding material 5 and a gel-like zinc electrode 6 are placed on the positive mixture 3, in that order. After that, the exterior case 1 is hermetically sealed by means of a sealing plate 7 around which an insulating gasket 8 is fixed, and the whole constitutes an alkaline battery. The separator 4 is prepared from a graft-polymer of a copolymer of a diolefin having 4-7 carbons and either ethylene or propylene, and a vinyl polymer. Here, 3-ethyl-1-butene-1-pentene or the like is used as the diolefin; methyl methacrylate, ethyl methacrylate or the like is used as the vinyl polymer.
