Abstract
PURPOSE: Titled composition, excellent in coating processability, water resistance and durability, and suitable for decorative finishing, which comprises a dispersion of a specified acrylic graft copolymer in water and an amino resin.
CONSTITUTION: (A) An unsaturated group-containing acrylic polymer of acid value ≤30, obtained by the reaction of 100pts.wt. of a carboxy-functional acrylic polymer with 0.2W3pts.wt. of glycidyl group-containing unsaturated monomer in a hydrophilic organic solvent, is polymerized with (B) a monomer mixture of acid value 40W200, containing an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, to form a carboxyl-, hydroxy- and amide-functional acrylic graft copolymer of acid value 15W 40 and of glass transition temperature -10W70°C. Then said copolymer is dispersed in an aqueous dispersing medium (containing 60W90wt% of water) after 50% or more of the carboxyl groups therein has been neutralized, and is then compounded with an amino resin.
