Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible the selection of photocouplable wavelengths by disposing a dielectric multilayer film filter between two optical guides. CONSTITUTION:The 1st groove is etched in the surface of a substrate 1 and a clad layer 2 is deposited on the surface of the groove, after which this core glass 3a is buried in this groove and a clad layer 2b is deposited after the surface has been made flat, whereby the 1st waveguide is formed. In order to form the 2nd waveguide, such a groove which exposes the clad layer 3a of the 1st waveguide is formed from the back of the substrate, and a multilayer filter film 4 is formed on the surface of this groove; thereafter a clad layer 2c, core glass 3b and clad layer 2d are deposited in the manner similar to that for the 1st optical guide. This is used for branching and coupling of such coupling wavelengths.
