Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture MnSO4 of superior quality by neutralizing a soln. of ferromanganese slag in sulfuric acid to remove impurities, concentrating the resulting soln. to remove CaSO4 deposited, and further concentrating the soln.
CONSTITUTION: Sulfuric acid is added to an aqueous slurry of ferromanganese slag finely pulverized to ≤200 mesh to dissolve the slag, and this soln. is adjusted to 6.0W8.5pH with alkali. By blowing air or oxygen-contg. gas, divalent iron is converted into trivalent iron, and the iron and heavy metals are precipitated as hydroxides, which are separated by filtration. The filtrate is concd. just until MnSO4 crystals begin to deposit, and CaSO4 deposited is removed by filtration. The filtrate is further concd. to crystallize MnSO4, and this MnSO4 is centrifugally separated and washed. The washing water is discharged from the system. Thus, MnSO4 crystals are obtd.
