Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent generation of harmful gasses such as HC, CO, etc. in the combustion of a 4-stroke cycle internal combustion engine, by providing in an exhaust gas system a means to generate turbulence by the combustion gas flowing back to the combustion chamber and also providing in an intake system a means to assist in generating turbulent flow of the back-flowing combustion gas.
CONSTITUTION: The upper wall of the combustion chamber 4 is provided with an intake valve opening 5 and exhaust valve opening 6 with valve seats 7, 8 respectively, and at each valve port an intake passage 9 and exhaust passage 10 are formed. The exhaust valve port 6 is provided with a guide wall 14 which is for generating rotating currents in the already combusted gas which flows back to the combustion chamber 4 through the exhaust gas passage 10 due to the overlap of opening of intake and exhaust valves 12 and 13. A spiral partition board 19 is provided in the intake passage 9, and it gives rotating currents to the intake gas and assists in effectively generating rotating currents in the back-flowing already combusted gas.
