Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled cathode effective for hydrogen overvoltage by adding the specific additives to triiron tetraoxide or the powder comprising essentially this and applying composite iron plating to a cathode substrate of titanium or titanium alloy under the specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: At least one surface of a cathode substrate comprising titanium or titanium alloy is plated by using the electroplating bath prepared by adding one or more kinds selected from powder of catalysts etc. for ammonia synthesis containing a small amount of K2O, Al2O3, etc., nonionic and cationic high polymer flocculants contg. high polymer polysaccharides and their derivatives, inorganic flocculants and nonionic and cationic surface active agents to triiron tetraoxide or the powder comprising essentially this. The ferrous ion concentration in this plating bath is made 0.2W1.5mol/l, and pH=3W6; no NH4 ions are contained. The plating may be performed either of an electroplating or electroless plating and it is desirable to perform the plating while continuously blowing an N gas into the bath.
