Abstract
PURPOSE:To mount stand-by optical fibers with high maintainability and reliability by connecting the stand-by optical fibers in series successively and by transmitting optical signals for monitoring through the connected optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:Stand-by optical fibers 51-54 are connected by connectors 21, 22, 26, 27, 23, and 24 for the stand-by optical fibers at both their ends. To one terminal of the connected optical fibers, an optical transmitter 10 for monitoring is connected, and an optical signal for monitoring is sent from the optical transmitter 10 to those optical fibers to monitor the optical fibers 51-54 all the time. Consequently, the fault of a stand-by optical fibers arranged a transmitting and receiving terminals is detected securely and faults occurring to stand-by optical connectors, intraoffice cords, splices, etc., in transmitting and receiving terminal stations are also detected. As a result, the stand-by fibers are monitored to detect a fault at each part and the mounting of the stand-by optical fibers with high maintainability and reliability is done.
