Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the stable optical modulator with a low price by providing a piezoelectric element mounting a light shielding plate between two optical waveguides and by applying an electric signal to that. CONSTITUTION:Light from a light transmitter 1 comprising a light emitting diode, etc. propagates and optical transmission line 2 made of optical fibers, and after modulated with an optical modulator 3, via the optical transmissin line 2, is incident to an optical convertor 6. The output is sent to an amplifier 8. The optical modulator 3, comprising a bimorph type ceramic oscillating element 14 mounting the light shielding plate 15, changes the quantity of a light transmitted from the transmission line 2 to 2a in proportion in a signal from a signal power source 4. Hereby, the optical modulator with an inexpensive cost is obtained.
