Abstract
PURPOSE:To convert mechanical displacement to an electric signal accurately without the influence of the characteristic change of a light emitting element and a photodetector and the fluctuation of a power source voltage, by using such code plate that the sum of irradiation areas for plural photodetectors becomes constant approximately. CONSTITUTION:A pair of photodetectors 1 and 2 are arranged with the optical axis of an LED3 as the symmetrical axis, and a code plate 4 is arranged in the middle of the optical path betweeen these photodetectors and the LED3, and the code plate 4 has a shadow part consisting of a light transmitting part and a light shielding part interposing the optical axis, and the shadow part is moved for the optical axis to change irradiation areas of the photodetectors. The sum of irradiation areas for the photodetectors 1 and 2 is made constant approximately to obtain a digital output, which is proportional to f(x) corresponding to mechanical displacement (x) due to the code plate 4 on the optical axis, or an analogue output, which is proportional to f(x) dependent upon only the power source potential, as the output of the photodetectors.
