Abstract

PURPOSE:To always obtain copies having a stable picture quality through making the change-over of exposure on a photoreceptor possible, by illuminating a reference target and by providing a filter in the light path, through which the reference target is projected onto the photoreceptor, so that this filter goes into and out from the light path freely. CONSTITUTION:A detector 10 which detects the density of the toner image of a reference target 3 formed on a photoreceptor 6 is provided between a transfer equipment 12 and a cleaning mechanism 11. The detector 10 is provided to correspond to the toner image of the reference target 3 formed outside the effective copy face on the photoreceptor 6, and the density of the toner image and the density of the background part are detected from this toner image. A filter 13 is provided in a movable part 14a of a rotary solenoid 14 so that this filter 13 goes into and out from a optical path 5' of an optical system 5 freely, and the detection signal of the detector 10 is amplified by an amplifying circuit 15 and is sent to a comparing circuit 16 to compare with the reference density signal from a reference circuit 17, and the comparison result is inputted to a central control circuit 18.
