Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize a signal transmission in a wide band with the light in a certain wavelength range, by using a graded type optical fiber having different lengthwise grading exponents. CONSTITUTION:When a wide band is wanted in the range of 0.84-1.20mum wavelength, a graded optical fiber having gapprox.=2.1 optimum grading exponent with lambda= 0.84mum is connected lengthwise to a graded optical fiber having the optimum gapprox.=1.8 grading exponent with lambda=1.20mum to form a transmission line. Then the optical signals in the range of lambda=0.84-1.20mum wavelength to give a narrow band to g=2.1 graded optical fiber with the light of e.g. lambda=1.2mum and a wide band to g=1.8 graded optical fiber respectively. As a result, a band of a certain extent can be obtained. In the same way, a band is secured even for other wavelength beams to increase the band to all wavelength beams in the range of lambda=0.84-1.2mum.
