Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a structural material for high-temp. use with enhanced adhesion of its thin layer and enhanced heat resistance by coating the surface of an Mo base structural material with a thin layer of carbon or a carbide with an intermediate layer of a specified metallic nitride in-between. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a strustural material made of Mo or Mo alloy is coated with >=1 kinds of nitrides selected from BN, AlN, Si3N4, TiN and VN in about 0.5-5mum thickness as an intermediate layer. The material surface is further coated with carbon or >=1 kinds of carbides selected from SiC, TiC and B4C with the intermediate layer in-between in the form of a thin layer having about 5-50mum thickness. The intermediate and thin layers are formed by plasma spraying, electoplating, vapor phase plating or othe method. Since the nitrides and carbides formed on the structural material do not react with each other, the material and the layers firmly adhere to each other to form a coat having dense structure. The resulting structural material is used mainly as a material for a high-temp. furnace.
