Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the wear and corrosion resistances of exterior decorative parts for a watch by plating each surface of the parts with Ni and Cr in 2 layers and further coating the plated surface with >=1 specified hard layers. CONSTITUTION:Each surface of exterior decorative parts for a watch is plated with Ni in 1-50mum thickness as the 1st layer and with Cr in 0.1-5mum thickness as the 2nd layer. The plated surface is then coated with 1 or arbitrarily combined >=2 layers as the uppermost layer selected from hardened layers of Ti, Cr, W, Ta, Hf and Zr carbides, nitrides, oxides and a mixture thereof by vapor deposition, spraying or other method in 0.1-20mum thickness per layer. Since the surface layer of a watch case or the like obtd. by this method has about Hv 800-3,000 high hardness, the case shows high wear resistance and superior corrosion resistance. The case can be coated with a coat of TiN, TaC or the like assuming a gold color.
